Did you know?  The concrete industry in the U.S. and globally has committed to be a net-zero carbon emission industry by 2050.  This decarbonization movement means that concrete suppliers in our area are developing new mixes and optimization approaches, all while delivering quality product.  And many public and private agencies are demanding lower-embodied carbon concrete for their projects – from the Federal General Services Administration and Microsoft to the City of Portland.  During this lunchtime session, we will hear from Stacey Foreman, the City of Portland’s Sustainable Procurement Program Manager, who spearheaded the work at the City to develop their new embodied carbon thresholds for concrete on City projects, which go into effect January 1, 2023.  She will provide an overview of how this transition is playing out in the Portland Metro Area and share lessons learned from the City’s threshold development process.
